 ## When do you need reading glasses?

Are you 42 or older? Do you find it increasingly difficult to read packaging or to look at things up close, for example? then there is a good chance that you suffer from **age-related visual deterioration** or **presbyopia**. The solution may be reading glasses, but many people find this impractical. By lasering your cornea or implanting a new lens, you can see better close up again.

 ## What does an eye with presbyopia look like?

Presbyopia is an age-related condition in which the lens inside the eye becomes less flexible. As a result, you gradually lose focus for close range. You have trouble with small letters, so you need reading glasses. If you already have glasses to see in the distance, you must switch to progressive glasses.

 ## What other solutions are there besides reading glasses?

There are two types of treatment for presbyopia:

- Laser eye surgery
- Lens replacement

Which treatment is best for you is determined during the preliminary examination.

  ### Laser eye surgery

With laser eye surgery, we can treat presbyopia **up to age 50**. It is truly an individualized process. At Medifocus, we use the Femto LASIK technique for this correction.

 ### Lens replacement

Once a person is **over 50**, a lens implant is highly efficient for improving both near and far vision. Thanks to a multifocal **(trifocal) lens**, 90% of patients are completely freed from distance and reading glasses.

 ## Emmelien D.

*It was actually my sister who convinced me as she had the same surgery 2 years ago. Again, the approach was beyond professional, a very efficient, skilled, reliable doctor and his staff made it possible I never felt any worries. They really took the time to answer any question I had for them. The surgery itself went smoothly without any complications. The aftercare provided was also impeccable.*
