## Benefits of cataract surgery for your eyes

### Clearer vision

Cataract surgery removes the cloudy lens that blurs your sight and replaces it with a transparent artificial lens. This allows light to pass cleanly through the eye again, restoring sharp and bright vision. Patients often describe the result as seeing the world in high definition.

### Better color perception

When cataracts form, they create a yellowish or brownish tint that dulls the vibrancy of colors. After surgery, patients often notice that colors are far more vivid, rich, and true-to-life. Everyday experiences—such as enjoying nature, watching television, or choosing clothes—become more enjoyable and engaging.

### Improved night vision

Cataracts often cause glare, halos, and difficulty with headlights or streetlights at night. Cataract surgery reduces these disturbances, making it easier and safer to drive or navigate in dimly lit environments. Restored night vision allows greater independence and confidence after dark.

### Enhanced quality of life

Clearer eyesight makes daily activities easier and more fulfilling. Whether it’s reading a book, cooking, using digital devices, or spending time with loved ones, improved vision enhances independence, mobility, and overall well-being. Many patients report feeling more active and socially engaged after treatment.

 ## What is Cataract?

A cataract is a common condition that occurs when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy. This clouding blocks and scatters light as it passes through the lens, resulting in blurred or hazy vision. Cataracts typically develop gradually as a part of aging, though they can also form due to diabetes, certain medications, or prolonged exposure to UV light

Over time, cataracts can interfere with daily life, making it difficult to perform simple tasks like reading, driving, or recognizing faces. Colors may appear faded, glare and halos may increase sensitivity to light, and night vision becomes more challenging. Fortunately, cataracts can be treated effectively with modern surgery, which replaces the cloudy lens with a clear, artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This safe and proven treatment restores clarity, enhances color perception, and significantly improves overall quality of life

## Your Options After Cataract Surgery

When treating cataracts, different types of lenses (IOLs) can be implanted. A standard lens is always an option and restores clear distance vision — but many patients enjoy the added benefit of greater freedom from glasses after surgery.

At Medifocus, we specialize in premium cataract surgery that goes beyond simply removing the cataract. Our aim is not only to restore clarity but also to provide you with the best possible vision for your daily life.

There are three main options:

 ![](/sites/default/files/2025-12/Premium%20Multifocal%20IOL.svg)## Premium Multifocal IOL

Provides clear vision at near, intermediate, and distance ranges, often reducing or even eliminating the need for glasses.

 ![](/sites/default/files/2025-12/Toric%20IOL.svg)## Toric IOL

Corrects astigmatism, giving sharper distance vision, though glasses are often needed for near vision.

 ![](/sites/default/files/2025-12/Standard%20IOL.svg)## Standard IOL

Restores distance vision, but glasses are usually still required for reading or intermediate tasks.

Discussing these possibilities is part of our standard protocol for every patient. We take the time to explain each option clearly, and together we choose the solution that best matches your eyes, your lifestyle, and your expectations.

- ### Premium Multifocal IOL

    Near 90% – Intermediate 90% – Distance 98%
- ### Toric IOL

    Near 25% – Intermediate 35% – Distance 95%
- ### Standard IOL

    Near 15% – Intermediate 25% – Distance 60%

I was treated with the ReLEx Smile technique and can recommend this to everyone. Dr. Van Cleynenbreugel is very professional, friendly, and clear. They take the time to explain everything thoroughly, perform all the necessary checkups, and guide you thoroughly through the final And they don’t leave you stranded after the procedure, either. Various aftercare visits are scheduled to ensure that everything is healing properly. My experience was definitely positive, and the results are astonishingly good. My vision is better now than when I was still wearing contact lenses.

On the advice of a good friend and the ophthalmologist, I visited Medifocus in early February to get some information. Within a week of my first visit, I was able to have the ReLEx smile treatment. I quickly decided what I'd wanted for years, but which I thought was impossible for a correction of nearly -8.

Because of how fast the procedure could be done, I immediately saved money on new glasses and a box of contact lenses (for sports). I made the quick decision with full confidence, based on good professional information and explanation. After 17 years of ‘four eyes’, it is fantastic to function without glasses. The operation was very smooth, and the results are perfect. My vision was already very good at the first check-up after a few days. Apart from a bit of blurry vision during computer work the first days, after just a few hours I could function well and even watch TV.

Had the Relex Smile technique applied at the beginning of June. I received a lot of information beforehand, including contact information for any further questions. The risks were also explained—it is and remains a surgical procedure—but they weren't minimized, giving me a realistic picture of the procedure… The technique is not cheap, but the price was always communicated transparently and well in advance.

On the day itself, everything went flawlessly and professionally. I never had any worries during, before or after the treatment, because I always had a contact point where I could call/email. Personally, I only had discomfort for a few hours after the treatment.
Excellent aftercare followed the treatment, and now after 3 months, my vision is 100%.

I can only recommend Medifocus.
